WriteBuff is a collaborative, closed-source product. This repository publicly documents the product, interface, and design process without production source code or private materials.
IELTS and TOEFL learners often write in Word, Google Docs, mock-test sites, or other familiar tools. Many AI writing products require a new editor and stop after one evaluation, leaving prompts, timing, correction, rewriting, and expression review disconnected.
WriteBuff stays alongside the learner's existing environment. A desktop companion supports the session, while shortcuts start practice, submit the essay, and open a detailed report.
Capture prompt → Choose exam, task, and time → Write in the existing app
→ Submit by shortcut → Review score, edits, and upgrade
→ Save expressions → Review later → Start the next practice
- Windows and macOS desktop application
- Global shortcuts for prompt capture, timing, and submission
- IELTS and TOEFL task and timing presets
- Rubric scores, line-level edits, upgraded drafts, and idea material
- Saved expressions (“Buffs”) with review reminders
- A desktop companion responding to timing, completion, score change, and review backlog
- Local essay and report history
The product separates lightweight companionship and status feedback from the information-dense report window. The companion must remain present without covering the writing environment, while the report needs room for evaluation and revision.
Interactions also need to feel alive without becoming distracting. Timing, reminders, pauses, timeouts, dragging, and mute controls all shape that balance. Prompt and essay capture must communicate when data is read and provide manual paste when copying is unavailable.
This is a collaborative product. I focus on UI, UX, and frontend interface design: structuring the complete learning path, defining the roles of the companion and report windows, and designing interface feedback across practice states.
I also iterate the interface around comprehension and usability issues found in testing rather than only styling predetermined requirements. Other collaborators contribute to product development; production source code remains private.
In development and testing. The core desktop workflow runs today. Current work focuses on cross-platform experience, report readability, companion interaction, and the expression-review loop. Screenshots, interaction walkthroughs, and more design process will be added here.
