I am an astrophysicist in my MPhys year at the University of Edinburgh. My current research focus is on modelling the observational signatures of Population III stars using high-resolution galaxy simulations; I am also the lead developer and maintainer of octavius.
- octavius: a high-performance simulation analysis toolkit capable of tackling next-generation simulations (currently working on a publication)
- Pop3: constructing photoionisation models of Population III stars with the Pop2Prime simulation
- Cepheids: a bespoke reduction, photometry and analysis pipeline to derive the distance to Andromeda from Cepheid variable stars
- Modelling and Visualisation: core simulation techniques, including Monte Carlo methods, cellular automata, and PDE solvers
- Forward modelling observational data
- Understanding galaxy formation and evolution
- Probing the cosmological model
- Astrostatistics
- Numerical methods and high-performance computing
In addition to my computational work I maintain a keen interest in theoretical astrophysics. Therefore, I am studying the following courses concurrently with my MPhys project:
- Theoretical Methods for Fusion and Astrophysical Plasma
- General Relativity
- Radiation Processes in Astrophysics
I am projected to graduate with first-class honours.
