Motivation
Session restoration is best-effort and depends on application launchers, Wayland/Mutter behavior, monitor topology and each application's document handling. Today, users must manually collect journal excerpts and session JSON when a restore fails, and those files may contain private window titles or document paths.
Suggested direction
Add an Export Diagnostics action that creates a reviewable text or archive report containing:
- SessionSifu and GNOME versions.
- Extension state and display protocol.
- Monitor/workspace topology without EDID serials.
- Sanitized application IDs and restore outcomes.
- Recent SessionSifu log messages.
- Explicit warnings and opt-in controls before including window titles or file paths.
The export should default to redacting usernames, home-directory prefixes, document names and command-line arguments. Users should be able to inspect the report before attaching it to an issue.
Benefit
This would make bug reports reproducible while preserving the privacy guarantees expected from session-state data.
